I made this super easy birdie to dance along to the fun and catchy song Diez Pajaritos by 123 Andrés. The song is great fun for kids of all ages and is great to teach counting in 2s to children though actually younger kids can enjoy learning about quantities decreasing when you take something away - and, of course, if you’re using the fun song with the activity, any age can enjoy this! Here is the English version - available on iTunes. It's really fun to do the activity in both English and Spanish so kids can get the chance to really understand the words in both English and Spanish - therefore increasing the chance that they will remember the vocabulary!
How I Made The Puppet:
I followed the very simple origami fortune teller model to make a beak-shaped head for the bird.
I tucked in the corners to round the head shape and glued two sides of the fortune teller together with glue to make a beak that would open and close. Don't worry that the paper looks ragged - I used heavy duty card and so the folds were a little rough. I would recommend using card so that the puppet is strong. You won't see the rough folds when it's decorated.
To decorate, I pierced holes into the side of the face and the top. Now feathers can be threaded into the holes. Next add eyes.
Finally to make the beak, cut two squares and glue inside the mouth. I cut a rectangular shape to go across the top of the beak to finish it off. Done! Pretty easy and quick!
123 Andres, Their Music AND Upcoming Show This Weekend in NYC!
I did a post back in May 2018 when 123 Andrés were releasing their latest album, 'La Luna'. We immediately fell in love with the musical style of the husband-wife duo, Andrés Salguero and Christina Sanabria. Andrés grew up in Colombia and now he and Christina travel around the United States promoting literacy and bilingualism. Andrés and Christina encourage parents to sing with and to their young children every day.
“The first years of life are the most important for brain development and the formation of bonds between parents and babies,” says Andrés
Andrés holds a doctorate in music and frequently leads bilingual music workshops for educators
