Making yarn dolls with plarn (plastic bags turned into yarn)

This is very easy - once you understand a few basic points. I learned the hard way - by trying out a number of different plarn-making techniques and also using different kinds of plastic bags. The following is my recommended method!

Start with a thin plastic bag. The thick kinds will not work well. Fold the sides in neatly as you see in the picture and make sure it is flat.
Fold in half lengthways and half again. Cut off the top handle section and the bottom part of the bag. Cut the bag all the way up - thin is good because then your yarn will be thin.
Unravel the rings that you should now have. You will now make a chain with the links as above by pulling one ring through itself to attach to the next. In the end you should have a long chain of two-ply plastic yarn!
Wrap the plarn around a piece of cardboard. The size of the cardboard will be the size that you want your doll to be. Cut the bottom of the wrapped plarn as you see in the picture. Gather the top section and use a pipe cleaner to create a neck. Separate the remaining plastic into three. You can braid, gather or do whatever you like to create the arms. I have made a girl but it you want a boy you can braid the legs. Use felt to decorate if you wish - or leave it. They are beautiful without features added too!
Happy Earth Day!
