Mardi Gras is very much underway in New Orleans and, if you are not lucky enough to be there to enjoy the musical and cultural festivities, fear not!! We have the perfect music video for you, along with downloadable music and these homemade masks. Bring Mardi Gras to you, wherever you may be!

The Masks

I cut the masks from cardboard and the kids and I painted them white together. My five year old got to work threading beads onto an old broken silver chain which I'd fished out of my jewelry box. He decided to put the beads on in different sequences of 1, 2, 3 beads which added a great maths element. I glued the chain to the top of the blue glitter mask and let it hang down below the eye level on the mask and glued there to hold it in place. We added beads, pink piping, feathers, sequins and lots and lots of glitter. Finally we stuck a wooden chopstick on each mask so it can be held up to the face. Now time to party!

The Music Video By Johnette And Scott

Johnette and Scott are the duo behind the brand new music video "Bamboula Rhythm," which premiered with Offbeat Magazine recently.

As the editors at Offbeat Magazine say, "'Bamboula Rhythm' brings the exuberance of a New Orleans street parade directly to you– perfect for children and their adults to dance along."

The song is a proper foot-tapper at the very least. My kids and I loved it and had to get our shakers and drums out to really take it up a notch! My four year old, when she heard that Mardi Gras is all about dressing up, got out her princess dress, slippers and keyboard. She now wants to visit New Oreans! Don't we all!

The song, Bamboula Rhythm can be found on the album Swamp Romp, the perfect music to bring a Louisiana dance party direct to your living room.

Johnette and Scott will be performing at many shows this spring and summer so check out their website for details. They will be singing with guest artist Irma Thomas ("Poor Worry Anna") at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 27th.

The album, which came out on February 15th, is available to buy on Johnette and Scott's website here or on Amazon.

Laissez les bon temps rouler (let the good times roll) !!!
