Why retell stories?
Getting kids to retell stories in their own words is a valuable tool. In order to retell a story you must first have understood it and the main themes/concepts/characters' roles. To retell the story, kids have to find new language or repeat phrases that have been used in the story. Also, if you set up a small world scene for kids then they can get creative, change things around a bit and have fun! The best learning comes from having fun! Learning should always be fun.
These puppets were pretty easy to make. Cut felt shapes, glue them to oversized wooden bamboo knitting needles with a glue gun. The large sized bamboo needles were great to give a 3D shape to the little figures. It really wasn't too difficult. Try it out yourself. Let me know how you did!
