An egg carton, a beautiful paper napkin, some mod podge (or glue) a bit of felt and some beads. Stick it all together and you have the most majestic animal in the land!

These were very easy to make and could be made by kids or by an adult for kids to play with. I'm making them to go with an activity using music that I have posted about separately. For now, lets see how they were made:

Cut the egg cartons as above. There should be two legs at the front and the back will be round. This is the way that most egg cartons are shaped. The 'leg' part comes from the middle section of the egg box and the round back end of the elephant comes from the edge of the egg box.

Find some pretty paper napkins. Mine were from a friend who brought them from Japan. Thank you Yuka!

Shred the paper napkin into smaller pieces and cover the egg cartons in glue and stick on the paper. I used Mod Podge but you could easily just use glue. Leave to dry.

Cut out felt shapes for the elephants' ears, tail and trunk as shown above. I rolled up the trunk section from a rectangular piece of felt. Stick all the pieces onto the elephants with glue. For the eyes, I used hot glue to stick on the beads because I need the elephants to be sturdy for tomorrow's activity. Check back tomorrow to see what we will be using them for!
