Because some of us just can't wait to get playing!

If you notice anything about my crafts it's that I am not a meticulous artist. I love to craft and I am definitely creative but I tend to rush things and like to get to the finished product sooner than some people might! Now felt food can be made in a few ways. You can just cut out shapes and have 2D food for your kids to stick to a felt board or play with in their kitchen, or you can sew away, needle and thread, to make some really beautiful 3D food. Pinterest is full of pictures showing what some people can do. They are amazing!!!! But I am never likely to have the staying power to make food like that. So when I decided to make felt food to go with Gunnar Madsen's new song 'I Am Your Food I wanted to spend no more than an hour on it. The food in the song includes tomato, bagel, hot dog, pistachios, pastrami, pepper, baloney, noodles, chopped liver and asparagus. See the pictures below to see how I made them! No sewing involved - instead I used hot glue - the crafter-who-cuts-corners' favorite tool!

Tomato

This was really easy. I used a circle cutter to get a perfect circle and it cut the felt really easily. Hot glue it all together.

Bagel

Again, I used a circle cutter to cut four circles. Glue two circles together section by section and stuff with stuffing as you go. I used felt tip pen to give the bagel some seeds. Make two so you have a top section and a bottom section so your kids can make bagel sandwiches.

Hot dog

I made a template as you can see below for the hot dog bun. I glued the top two ovals together at the end and stuffed into the edges as far as I could and then glued the hot dog bun shut. I repeated on the other side. Then I made a hot dog by rolling a rectangular piece of felt up using a pen and glued at the end. Again, I stuffed it and glued the end. Then I cut wiggly pieces of ketchup and mustard.

Peppers

I cut out the front and back of the peppers and hot glued one edge, stuffed them and hot glued the other side to close it up.

Pistachios, Pastrami, Baloney, Noodles, Chopped liver, Asparagus

Pistachios and chopped liver were pretty tricky and I probably wouldn't have ever tried to make such foods if they hadn't been in the song..! The noodles came out well. I sprayed them with water to soften them and scrunched them up so the felt wasn't so straight. The asparagus also worked out well. I just cut triangle shapes and stuck them on to the asparagus stalks. The baloney? Well it was just a pink circle! Please feel free to offer me a better way of doing it!

Anyway once you've spent your hour making these shapes - look at the fun you - I mean your kids - can have making faces and people!!!!!
