I've always been slightly obsessed with the way people in the Far East draw cute faces on animals, people and even inanimate objects! When I taught kids in Japan, I was amazed at the artistic abilities of even very young children. The thing is, learning to draw cute faces is actually quite simple if you understand a few basic points. I did this activity with my kids this morning and my three year old and five year old came up with some beautifully cute animal faces!

TIPS:
Draw the eyes wide apart and keep the mouth small and simple

Draw cute rosy cheeks

Don't try to make it look real

Keep shapes circular for a softer, cuter look

I made the simple faces above and then prepared a load of coloured paper in different shapes. I called the kids over, explained the above points and invited them to get creative! We all really enjoyed this activity and I think their artistic ability AND confidence were improved after only ten minutes or so of practice.

A fun activity to do also if you want to practice the names of shapes or colours.
Try it and see and let me know how you get on!
