Five minutes preparation time - and you can keep kids busy by getting them to draw the ghosts.

This is a super easy game to set up and I did with my three year old and five year old, who are obviously at different reading levels. My daughter (3 years old) used the pink post it notes that had very simple three letter words written on them and my son (5 years old) used the green that had sight words written on them.

How to set up
Write the words you want to practice and stick them on a board, table or the wall. Draw some cute ghosts (you could use something else if you don't want to use ghosts). I had the kids draw the ghosts onto sticky white labels to keep them busy while I wrote out the words and set up the game. Stick the ghosts under some of the words. Perhaps a third is about the right amount. Too many and the game gets too exciting and the aim of the game (to practice reading) is lost.
How to play
Have kids take turns reading a word and once they have read it correctly they peel it off the board, If there is a ghost underneath they have to stand up and run round in a circle screaming "aaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!'. My kids loved this and demanded that we play it again and again. Its so easy to set up that you could use new words each time or keep practicing the same words. Try it and see!
